For habilitation candidates
Habilitation
Habilitation is a higher education qualification following a doctoral degree (PhD/DLA) that certifies the candidate’s independent, high-level scientific work and university teaching activities.
The habilitated doctoral title can be obtained as a result of a habilitation procedure conducted on the basis of an application. During the habilitation, the applicant demonstrates the significance of their research results, publication and creative achievements, as well as their lecturing and teaching competencies before the professional community.
Upon successful completion of the habilitation procedure, the University issues a habilitation certificate (decretum habilitationis).
Prerequisites for habilitation
Anyone who meets the following conditions may request the initiation of the habilitation procedure:
- holds a doctoral degree and has been engaged in high-level, independent scientific or artistic creative activity for at least five years since obtaining the degree;
- has performed teaching duties at a domestic or foreign higher education institution for at least eight semesters;
- in the case of habilitation through scientific work, has been engaged in regular, high-level scholarly activity, as evidenced by articles published in prestigious international, peer-reviewed journals recognized as authoritative in the field and references appearing in the same places, as verified by the Database; in addition, regularly participates in international and domestic scientific events with lectures and presentations of his or her results;
The title of habilitated doctor can be obtained in the scientific field corresponding to the applicant’s doctoral degree. The habilitation procedure may be initiated in a scientific field other than that of the applicant’s doctoral degree if the applicant’s activities since obtaining the scientific degree justify this. University degrees and doctoral degrees obtained abroad must be recognized in accordance with the relevant legislation before the habilitation procedure can be initiated.
The Doctoral School of Materials Science and Technology is authorized to conduct habilitation procedures in the field of materials science and technology in the field of technical sciences.
